2019 Art as Worship Theme Announcement

2019 Theme
JUSTICE

In the beginning God created (Genesis 1:1). God is creator, God still creates today, and He calls us to be creative. We honor our creative God with our artistic creations.

This year we invite artists to submit work that contemplates the many meanings and resonances of JUSTICE in Scripture, in Christian thought, and in our society today. It is written in Psalm 50:6

And the heavens proclaim his righteousness, for he is a God of justice.
Eligibility

Open to artists working in all media. Entries must be your own original artwork. Artwork must be consistent to the show theme, although the link may be more obvious in your description than in the work itself. Each applicant may submit up to two works. Artwork must have sturdy wire across the back for hanging; limited space for three dimensional artwork is available. The St. Matthew Fine Arts Ministry reserves the right to reject work that is deemed inappropriate or which differs from the submitted image.

Entry Procedure
There is no entry fee nor does the Fine Arts Ministry keep a commission on any sales. Each artist may submit up to 2 works. Please submit your information by November 1, 2019 to allow for gallery signs to be made, but the artwork itself doesn't need to be complete at that time.

The opening gala will be held Saturday, November 23 from 6:30 - 9:00 pm.

2018 Art as Worship exhibit

The walls are now bare, but the 2018 Art as Worship exhibit was another wonderful display of creative work among our artist friends. We hung/displayed 32 works of art (several of which incorporated multiple components). We welcomed 7 new artists.  We even sold 5 pieces! And we welcomed an impressive number of guests at the opening gala as well as throughout the seasons of Advent and Christmas. Thanks to St. Matthew Lutheran Church for their continued support of the fine arts!

We will be announcing the 2019 theme in early February, but for now, please enjoy this retrospective on last year's exhibit:
