2017 Art as Worship Exhibit

Thank you to everyone who attended our gala opening on November 4, 2017. We had such a wonderful night of art, music, goodies, and conversation. The artwork will be hanging in our gallery hallways through the beginning of January, so if you are able, we invite you to visit in person, because photos really do not do justice to the artwork. {Please contact the church office at 254.772.9349 to inquire when the exhibit will be open during business hours or visit on Sunday mornings or Christmas Eve for worship.} But for those who are at a distance, please enjoy this virtual gallery of the 2017 Art as Worship exhibit with the theme of MYSTERY.

For those pieces of art with a price listed, please contact me if you are interested in making a purchase.  We will get you touch with the artist to make arrangements.  Thank you for your support of creativity in the community!

2017 Art as Worship Theme Announcement

2017 Theme
MYSTERY

In the beginning God created (Genesis 1:1). God is creator, God still creates today, and He calls us to be creative. This year we choose the word MYSTERY to serve as a guide through our creative process. Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 2:7-9
We declare God’s wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of Glory. However, as it is written:
what no ear has heard,
and what no human mind has conceived
the things God has prepared for those who love him—
these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit.
The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.
We honor our creative God with our artistic creations.  We invite artists to submit work that contemplates the meanings and resonances of MYSTERY in scripture, in Christian thought, and in human society.

Eligibility, Media, and Size
Open to artists working in all media. Entries must be original artwork. Artwork must be consistent to the show theme. Each applicant may submit up to two works. Artwork must have sturdy wire across the back for hanging. The St. Matthew Fine Arts Ministry reserves the right to reject work that is deemed inappropriate or which differs from the submitted image.

Entry Procedure
There is no entry fee. Each artist may submit up to 2 works. 3D works are allowed up to two images per entry (no more than 4 images total). All images must be accompanied with the completed application information. The submission deadline is October 16, 2017.

The opening gala will be held on Saturday, November 4 from 6:30 - 9:00pm at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Waco, TX.  Please plan to join us for art, music, hors d'oeuvres, and fellowship.  The artwork will hang throughout the Thanksgiving, Advent, and Christmas seasons.

2016 Art as Worship Memories

Our sixth annual Art as Worship: A Gallery Exhibition and Benefit was another wonderful event with 29 works of art, 20 artists, and 10 first-time artists.  The theme was REFLECTION, which filled our Advent and Christmas seasons with color, light, and sparkle.  Any inquiries about the artwork may be directed to lettersalot@gmail.com
